What kind of treatment is available at the Hospice?
The hospice has 31 in-patient short-stay beds. These are arranged in bays together with a number of separate single rooms. The ward bays provide single sex accommodation.
Patients are admitted for:
- Symptom Control
- Pain Relief
- Assessment
- Terminal Care
- Respite Care
- Treatments can also be given on a day-case basis
Coming to the Hospice
A patient is referred to the hospice by either a General Practitioner or Hospital Consultant. A member of LOROS staff will be in touch with either or both before a patient comes into the hospice and will keep them fully informed. A member of the hospice staff will telephone the patient to advise of the date and time of the admission. LOROS is not a long stay unit. It provides specialist care for patients with complex problems together with terminal and respite care.
If an ambulance is required, the General Practitioner will organise this. If the patient is able to travel by car then normally a relative or friend will assist. If there is likely to be any difficulty in the patient being brought to the hospice, LOROS should be advised. There is ample car parking at the hospice close to the main entrance. The Smoking Policy
We consider that LOROS should provide a healthy environment within the hospice. Patients who wish to smoke may do so in the designated smoking room which is situated off the social area.We ask that relatives and visitors of patients do NOT smoke within the hospice. This request includes the patients’ rooms and garden area or around the outside of the hospice building. Other patients, their relatives and children, together with staff, find this to be offensive and a risk to their own health.
